Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi, Hasan Waqar Cheema, announced on Wednesday that outsourcing the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) will significantly improve the sanitation system in the district. In a detailed briefing, the DC emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance cleanliness across Rawalpindi city and its tehsils.
For the first time in Punjab’s history, such extensive efforts are being made to ensure cleanliness. The DC directed that the outsourcing process should be completed promptly, with all necessary arrangements finalized. The plan includes manual and mechanical sweeping, waste collection, drain cleaning, and waste disposal. Preference will be given to companies with modern machinery.
Special attention will be given to garbage dumping, ensuring every tehsil has at least one environment-friendly dumping site. The DC warned that any negligence in cleanliness operations post-outsourcing will not be tolerated. The municipality department will monitor the outsourcing system digitally, including biometric attendance, vehicle tracking, vehicle weighing at dumping sites, digital fleet monitoring, container clearance through geo-tagging, and prompt complaint resolution.
