In a major initiative to enhance livestock quality and agricultural productivity, the Livestock Department has announced the distribution of 5,300 high-breed bucks and rams to cattle farmers. This program, designed to improve animal breeds and increase milk, meat, and wool production, is set to revolutionize cattle farming, according to Deputy Director Livestock Dr. Jamshaid.
The free-of-cost distribution will provide farmers with superior genetic stock from the government’s specialized farms. These high-breed bucks and rams are anticipated to significantly boost livestock productivity and health.
Dr. Jamshaid noted that eligibility requires farmers to own at least 25 animals to ensure the genetic benefits are fully utilized in breeding programs. By targeting farmers with established herds, the program aims to maximize the impact on regional milk, meat, and wool production.
This scheme is part of the Livestock Department’s broader strategy to modernize agricultural practices and tackle challenges like low productivity and poor animal health. The improved breeding stock is expected to lead to healthier animals, higher yields, and better overall productivity.
The program aligns with the government’s commitment to supporting rural economies and enhancing farmers’ livelihoods. By upgrading livestock quality, farmers can achieve better returns and contribute to economic growth, with expected improvements in milk yields, wool quality, meat quality, and disease resistance.
