China’s LTEC International Agriculture Development Co., Ltd. is partnering with Pakistani farmers to cultivate chili across 10,000 acres for export to China. Known for their high-quality hybrid chili seeds, the company achieved over 3 tons of dried red chili per acre in June across Pakistan’s Sindh, central, and southern Punjab regions.
Dr. Muhammad Adnan, Executive Manager at LTEC, stated that all chili from contracted farmers will be exported to China this year. They provide technical support from nursery to harvest, buying back chili at premium prices. Contract farmers from across Pakistan, particularly in Sindh and central and southern Punjab, receive training at LTEC’s model farms in Multan, Lodhran, Jalalpur, Vehari, Jampur, and Layyah.
Training sessions focus on showcasing chili varieties, effective picking and drying techniques, disease management, and increasing chili production for export. LTEC has supervised 3,000 acres and contracted 16,000 acres for chili cultivation in Pakistan since 2020, with 10,000 acres contracted for 2024, aiming to meet Chinese market demands and boost Pakistan’s chili production.
LTEC’s Director, Chen Liyang, highlighted their project’s aim to enhance agricultural practices and economic growth in Pakistan. They provide hybrid seeds, advanced farming techniques, and support farmers with a buyback program, promoting sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices. Their goal is to strengthen Pakistan’s chili production, contribute to its economic prosperity, and foster sustainable development.
