Saif Energy Ltd., in collaboration with Oil & Gas Development Company Ltd. (OGDCL) and Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), has reported the finding of fresh hydrocarbon reserves in the Kohat Block, which is a significant development for Pakistan’s energy sector.
The CEO of Saif Energy Ltd., Mr. Jehangir Saifullah Khan, praised the discovery as a huge accomplishment and underlined the need for collaboration between national and private businesses for Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
The Togh-2 (Slant) exploration well was first spudded on August 28, 2023, and by November 18, 2023, it had reached its target depth of 2414 meters in the Chichali-l Formation. The joint venture made the decision to deepen the well in order to investigate the hydrocarbon potential within the Lumshiwal-Il thrust sheet after the initial success.
On December 7, 2023, this phase came to an end, having descended to a total of 2600 meters. To further their commitment to national interests, OGDCL and Saif Energy Ltd. made the historic decision to test the exploratory well at their own risk.
Testing produced encouraging results, confirming the presence of gas and condensate in the Lumshiwal-ll Formation. With a 32/64″ choke and a wellhead pressure of 540 psi, the well produced an astounding 28 barrels of condensate and 2.842 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas every day. With this finding, Pakistan’s public and commercial sectors have successfully collaborated to undertake a daring project for the improvement of the country’s energy resources.
