The unit responsible for monitoring and investigating social media accounts across different platforms aims to counter the dissemination of religious, sectarian, and linguistic hatred as well as propaganda against the country and its institutions.
The unit conducted thorough monitoring of social media platforms and identified 1,522 accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms engaged in such activities. Following this, they submitted a letter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requesting the closure of these accounts, resulting in the blocking of 462 accounts.
Of these blocked accounts, 65 were found involved in promoting religious hatred, 47 in spreading propaganda against the country, and 350 in disseminating terrorism-related content. Additionally, steps are being taken to close the remaining 1,060 social media accounts soon.
Authorities emphasized the importance of preventing extremism as a means to counter terrorism effectively and enhance the security of the capital. They highlighted ongoing efforts by the capital police to engage with educational institutions, madrassahs, and mosques to address extremism. Sermons in mosques are also being reviewed to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies.
Moreover, the unit is actively monitoring political, linguistic, and religious extremist content on social media and other websites. Reports are prepared, and legal action is taken against criminal activities identified through this monitoring process. These efforts are crucial in combating extremism and ensuring the safety and security of the country.
