The Ignite – National Technology Fund is preparing to implement an inventive subsidy model to support 25,000 freelancers nationwide as part of the co-working spaces project. Drawing funding from the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), Rs. 1 billion has been approved for the establishment of 250 e-Rozgar centers by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB).
In the second phase overseen by Ignite, nearing completion, a tailored subsidy model for 25,000 freelancers is in development, with board approval and a request for proposal imminent.
This groundbreaking initiative, estimated to cost between 2.5 to 3 billion rupees, is designed to empower freelancers by channeling funds to co-working space owners. These owners will utilize the budget to provide essential facilities for freelancers.
The Ministry of IT and Telecom is gearing up to launch e-Rozgar centers for freelancers in collaboration with established Software Technology Parks across 27 cities.
Additionally, the government plans to incentivize private building owners by offering interest-free loans, up to 10 million rupees, to convert their buildings into e-Rozgar centers. In summary, this initiative signifies a significant leap forward in supporting freelancers, utilizing innovative subsidy models and collaborations between government bodies and private entities to enhance the freelance landscape in Pakistan.
