Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the immediate launch of a 100MW solar project for Gwadar and Gilgit Baltistan, aiming to provide uninterrupted and affordable electricity as part of a broader energy sector reform. The project underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable development, clean energy, and regional economic growth.
During a briefing on energy reforms, the prime minister emphasized that all relevant institutions must work together to deliver reliable power to Gwadar Port City, supporting local industries and attracting new investment. Special instructions were also issued to begin the Gilgit Baltistan solar project without delay, highlighting the welfare and development of GB residents as a top priority.
Officials noted that power disruptions in Gwadar have already been reduced by 42%, and plans are in place to stabilize voltage levels within six months. Short-term projects include adding 9.7MW of solar capacity in government buildings, while long-term plans involve a 40MW expansion to support Gwadar’s sustainable energy needs. Rising electricity demand, driven by industrial expansion and urban growth, makes these projects essential for the region’s future.
This initiative marks a significant step toward clean, reliable, and environmentally friendly energy, reinforcing Pakistan’s focus on renewable power and long-term economic stability.
