Saud Shakeel, the middle-order batsman for Pakistan’s Test cricket team, has made history by becoming the first player in the 146-year history of Test cricket to score 20 or more runs in 15 consecutive innings from the beginning of his Test career.
This remarkable feat was achieved during Pakistan’s second innings in the Perth Test, where they faced a challenging target of 450 runs and suffered a significant defeat.
Saud Shakeel made his Test debut against England in Rawalpindi in 2022 and has since maintained an exceptional average of 77.25 in eight matches, accumulating a total of 927 runs. Notably, he achieved a double century against Sri Lanka earlier in the year.
This latest accomplishment surpasses the previous record held by Sir Everton Weekes, who had an impressive streak of 14 innings. Saud Shakeel’s consistency and performance have also set him apart, as he became the first player in Test history to score a half-century in each of his first seven Tests. Additionally, he outperformed cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Basil Butcher, Saeed Ahmad, and Bert Sutcliffe by scoring fifty or more runs in each of his first six Test matches.
Despite the defeat in the Perth Test, Saud Shakeel’s historic achievement adds a significant chapter to his burgeoning Test career, showcasing his consistency and prowess in the cricketing world.
