The Sindh government has unveiled plans to integrate approximately 200 electric buses into the feeder routes of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system, with financial backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). In discussions between ADB’s Principal Director F.
Cleo Kawawaki and Caretaker CM Sindh Justice Retired Maqbool Baqar, the emphasis was on strategies to combat air pollution through the introduction of electric buses. The Caretaker CM highlighted that the expanded fleet would serve about 50,000 daily commuters, contributing to environmental sustainability.
The meeting also covered the broader public transport initiatives of the Sindh government, benefiting numerous citizens daily, with the addition of buses aiming for the long-term viability of the entire system. The Secretary of Transport disclosed plans to introduce 170-180 electric buses along the existing BRT routes, specifically the Green and Orange Lines.
Furthermore, incorporating solar energy into the power generation process is anticipated to curtail operational expenses, enhancing the system’s economic efficiency.
