In a significant victory at the ongoing Asian Baseball Championship in Taiwan, the Pakistan men’s baseball team triumphed over Thailand with a 4-1 score. The highlight of the match was the outstanding performance by 18-year-old pitcher Musharaf Khan, who demonstrated dominance with 27 outs in 9 innings, securing the win for Pakistan.
The initial stages saw Pakistan leading 1-0, eventually expanding their lead to 2-0. Musharaf Khan’s impressive pitch shattered the bat of a Thai batter, showcasing his remarkable skills. Clocking speeds exceeding 140 kmph, Khan’s formidable performance contributed to Pakistan finishing the inning at 3-0. While Thailand attempted a comeback, reaching a score of 3-1, they faced Khan’s prowess once again.
This victory marks Pakistan’s first in the Asian Baseball Championship after facing defeats against Japan (14-0) and the Philippines (4-2). The team will now enter the ‘Placement Round,’ competing against Palestine, Hong Kong, and Thailand. Pakistan aims for a 5th-placed finish in the event.
With eight participating countries, including host Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines advancing to the next round, Pakistan, Palestine, Hong Kong, and Thailand will vie for 5th to 8th places. Pakistan’s upcoming match is against Palestine on December 8, 2023, at Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium, New Taipei City. Notably, Pakistan previously defeated Palestine 11-3 in the final of the 2023 West Asia Baseball Cup in February.
