Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, undertook a visit to Rawalpindi to oversee the progress of the Safe City Project and inspect the ongoing construction of a service center located at Liaquat Bagh.
During his visit, Dr. Usman Anwar reiterated the importance of completing the Safe City Project within the stipulated timeline to ensure enhanced citizen service delivery and bolster security measures in the region.
The ambitious project, with an estimated cost of Rs3.5 billion, aims to install a total of 1,886 CCTV cameras across 306 strategic locations, primarily concentrated in the Red Zone of Rawalpindi. These cameras will play a crucial role in enhancing surveillance capabilities and deterring criminal activities in the area.
However, despite prior directives and efforts, the installation of CCTV cameras is still underway, highlighting the complexities involved in executing such a large-scale project.
In the face of ongoing installation procedures, Rawalpindi continues to grapple with street crimes, with over 45 reported incidents including vehicle thefts and mobile phone snatchings. The persistence of such criminal activities underscores the pressing need for the Safe City Project’s timely completion and effective implementation of security measures.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are actively engaged in addressing these incidents, with concerted efforts aimed at apprehending the culprits and ensuring the safety and security of the public.
