Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, presiding over a joint meeting of the Agriculture and Irrigation departments, has decided to support small and medium-level farmers and landholders. CM Murad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of facilitating farmers by providing them with essential agricultural resources at reduced costs, allowing them to utilize these tools to improve their productivity and contribute to the agro-economy. He instructed Secretary Agriculture Rafiq Buriro to submit a detailed proposal on the targeted growers and financial implications to arrange the necessary funds beyond current budget allocations.
Minister Agriculture Mohammad Bux Mahar briefed the CM on initiatives to enhance the agriculture sector, including providing agricultural equipment and solar systems for tube wells to boost productivity. The CM highlighted the need to guide growers during the current Kharif season, given the rising temperatures’ potential impact on agricultural output. He referenced historical temperature data and stressed the importance of studying current conditions to advise farmers accordingly.
Shah also addressed the restoration of old waterways in areas such as Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, and Badin, which will help upgrade degraded lands. He directed the Irrigation Department to ensure water supply for proper crop growth, noting that water is being provided to perennial and some non-perennial canals for drinking purposes.
