Pakistan’s promising junior tennis talent, Shayan Afridi, has achieved a major international milestone by winning the El Paso Sports Commission Junior Open Tennis Tournament in the Under-14 category in Texas, United States.
Afridi produced a commanding display in the final, defeating Andrew Hiotellkis by 4–0 at the El Paso Tennis Club, demonstrating composure, technical strength, and competitive maturity beyond his age.
Shayan Afridi is currently touring the United States alongside fellow Pakistani junior player Rashid Ali. Prior to their participation in Texas, both players competed in the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship in Miami, where they earned places in the main draw—a significant accomplishment at the global junior tennis level.
Following the Orange Bowl, the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), in collaboration with the BARD Foundation, facilitated a one-month training and competition program for the young athletes in Texas. The initiative aims to enhance international exposure, match experience, and high-performance training.
The program is being conducted under the supervision of ATP-Certified coach Eduardo Vicencuo Lalovic, with a focus on intensive training sessions alongside participation in local tournaments to strengthen competitive development.
President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, praised the young players, stating that Shayan Afridi and Rashid Ali possess exceptional talent and represent the future of Pakistan tennis. He reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to providing international exposure and quality training opportunities for junior players, adding that Afridi’s tournament victory reflects the positive direction of Pakistan’s junior tennis development pathway.
