In a concerted effort to combat the burgeoning waste crisis in Punjab, the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) spearheaded a month-long cleanliness campaign under the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The initiative, which saw the active participation of over 3,000 dedicated workers, aimed to transform all union councils in Rawalpindi into zero-waste zones.
Throughout the duration of the campaign, each union council received meticulous attention, with two full days dedicated to manual cleaning and drain desilting activities. The tireless efforts of the workforce culminated in the clearance of a staggering 25,000 tonnes of garbage, marking a significant stride towards reclaiming the city’s sanitation standards.
Rana Sajid Safdar, CEO of RWMC, reiterated the organization’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the cleanliness of the city. Emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts in waste management, Safdar underscored the need for continuous engagement from both authorities and citizens alike.
In tandem with the cleanup operations, RWMC launched a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at fostering a culture of responsible waste disposal among residents. Encouraging citizens to utilize designated bins for waste disposal, the campaign also provided avenues for reporting any sanitation-related issues through the dedicated helpline 1139 or the ‘Clean Rawalpindi’ mobile application.
The success of the cleanliness drive not only signifies a significant milestone in Rawalpindi’s waste management endeavors but also underscores the power of collaborative efforts in addressing pressing environmental challenges. As Punjab strives towards its goal of sustainable development, initiatives such as these serve as a testament to the transformative impact of collective action in safeguarding our communities and environment.
