Punjab is set to experience widespread monsoon rains from today until July 20, according to a spokesperson from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Severe rainstorms with strong winds are expected across most districts in the province, particularly heavy rains and thunderstorms in southern Punjab between July 17 and 19. These rains are anticipated to provide relief from the heat and humidity.
However, there is a risk of flooding in Punjab’s rivers and streams, warned Irfan Kathia, Director General of PDMA. He urged city administrations to stay vigilant and complete necessary preparations in advance.
Kathia cautioned that the storms could damage electricity poles and solar panels. Relevant authorities have been alerted in light of the weather forecast, following directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz.
Efforts are being made to ensure the prompt drainage of water from low-lying areas. PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia added that the PDMA control room is monitoring weather conditions around the clock.
The public is urged to follow government instructions to ensure safety during this period.
