In a significant move to uplift the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced an immediate salary increase for Islamabad police officers, bringing them in line with their counterparts in the Punjab Police. He also introduced an Executive Allowance for officers in the ICT Police and Islamabad administration, aligning it with similar allowances provided in the provinces.
Honoring the Martyrs of Islamabad Police
Addressing a gathering at the Police Lines Headquarters, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the police force for their unwavering dedication and sacrifices. During the event, he extended the Shuhada (Martyr) Package to the families of the remaining 44 out of the total 64 ICT Police officials who lost their lives while serving in the line of duty. The prime minister also laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument and interacted with the family of Constable Abdul Hameed, who was martyred during a recent protest.
Completion of the Police Hospital
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for the swift completion of the Police Hospital, a project he had previously announced in June 2023. He assured that all obstacles to the project would be addressed, and the hospital would soon be operational to serve police personnel. He also acknowledged the dedication of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi for their continuous efforts in enhancing the police force’s capabilities.
Reinforcing Police Recruitment and Resources
The prime minister directed the immediate recruitment of constables and officers in the ICT Police on a merit basis to address the department’s shortage. He praised the professionalism of the ICT Police during the 2013-14 sit-in and the recent protests, emphasizing the importance of an efficient and well-resourced police force to maintain law and order, especially during high-profile international visits.
Prime Minister’s Commitment to Police Reforms
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his party’s long-standing commitment to reforming the police force, highlighting the initiatives taken during his tenure as Punjab chief minister, including the Safe City project and the establishment of the Counter-Terrorism Department, Elite Force, and Dolphin Force. He expressed his government’s support for further police reforms across provinces to enhance the efficiency of law enforcement agencies nationwide
