Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has recognized the exceptional efforts of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officer Ijaz Hussain, who uncovered a massive sales tax fraud worth trillions of rupees. During a meeting at the PM House, the Prime Minister presented Hussain with a commendatory shield and a Rs. 5 million award, praising his dedication and honesty in tackling tax evasion.
This recognition is part of the ongoing FBR reforms aimed at curbing tax evasion and improving the tax system. The fraud, involving the use of an 80-year-old woman’s credentials, was flagged by Hussain earlier this year. The government is committed to identifying and punishing both the perpetrators and any FBR officers involved in facilitating the fraud, as part of broader efforts to tighten tax compliance and expand Pakistan’s tax base.
