Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has instructed relevant authorities to speed up the implementation of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Chinese government and companies, emphasizing that delays will not be tolerated.
In a review meeting on Pak-China cooperation held at the PM House, the Prime Minister highlighted China’s steadfast support for Pakistan in times of need. He noted the Chinese leadership’s commitment to further expanding investments in Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif pointed out that the transfer of Chinese industries to Pakistan would enhance the country’s economy, boost exports, and create employment opportunities.
During the meeting, progress on various projects with Chinese cooperation was discussed. The Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway will be completed through a Public Private Partnership, and a plan to send 1,000 students for modern agricultural vocational training in China has been finalized, with the first batch departing this academic year.
Additionally, a plan to transition power plants from imported coal to local coal is in its final stages. A business road show in Beijing is being organized to highlight investment opportunities in Pakistan, and a detailed roadmap for the transfer of Chinese industries to Pakistan was presented. The Chinese textile, medical and surgical equipment, plastic, and leather industries are set to partner with Pakistani companies for relocation.
The Board of Investment (BoI) reported that 78 Pakistani companies have shown strong interest in collaborating with Chinese industries. The Prime Minister praised the BoI’s efforts and directed relevant departments to facilitate these collaborations.
The meeting included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, several Federal Ministers, and other high-ranking officials. Some ministers attended via video link.
