Pakistan made a strong cultural statement at the 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, held from April 26 to May 5, 2025. The event brought together literary voices from around the world, and for the first time, the National Book Foundation (NBF) officially participated on behalf of Pakistan.
A Proud First for the National Book Foundation
Representing Pakistani literature globally, the NBF set up a dedicated stall showcasing a range of Urdu and English books. The stall was inaugurated by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, who praised the effort to promote national literary heritage internationally.
Bridging Cultures Through Books
The book fair attracted a large number of Pakistani students and teachers based in the UAE. Their visit to the NBF stall helped strengthen cultural ties and encouraged younger generations to connect with their roots through literature.
Spotlight on Pakistani Dramas
A special panel discussion titled “Capturing Diverse Realities; Dreaming Many Dreams” shed light on the evolution of Pakistani television drama. Renowned writers like Amna Mufti and Shazia Ali Khan explored how storytelling has shaped Pakistan’s creative identity.
A Step Toward Literary Diplomacy
Pakistan’s debut at the fair marked an important step toward literary diplomacy. The event served as a meaningful exchange of ideas, allowing Pakistani voices to reach new global audiences.
