The Pakistan Cotton Ginner’s Association (PCGA) recently released their latest biweekly report, showing a substantial 19.3% increase in cotton arrivals in Pakistan as of October 15 when compared to the figures reported on September 30.
The report disclosed that the total cotton arrivals in Pakistan have reached 5.996 million bales, a significant uptick from the 5.025 million bales registered at the end of September 2023, indicating a growth of 0.971 million bales.
When we compare these current figures to those of the previous year, cotton arrivals have surged by almost 62% from the 3.708 million bales recorded on October 15, 2022.
This increase in cotton arrivals is particularly encouraging for Pakistan, considering the country’s struggles with significant challenges, including destructive flash floods that had a severe impact on agricultural land, especially in Sindh and Balochistan. These challenges led to a 34% year-on-year decline in cotton crop production last year.
The rise in cotton arrivals is a positive development for Pakistan, especially for its essential textile sector, which heavily relies on cotton as a primary raw material. This development is occurring at a crucial time when the country’s textile sector is dealing with reduced demand and an overall challenging economic environment.
