Pakistani MMA trailblazer Anita Karim has achieved a remarkable feat, securing two gold medals at the Siam Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. Competing in the 55 kg/Lightweight category and the ‘Absolute’ category, Karim displayed her prowess by triumphing over opponents from Japan and Thailand.
In the lightweight category, she secured victories against Japan’s Miyu Suzuki, Thailand’s Chutima Sala, and Saifa Phetdee, with the first two wins achieved through submission and the last one through points. In the absolute category, Karim defeated Thailand’s Chutima Sala, Sasithon Yahyi, and Tanyaporn Mungklakeeree, securing the first and third wins via submission and the second on points.
Notably, Anita Karim is Pakistan’s first female MMA fighter to compete internationally, breaking barriers in a country where female participation in sports is not the norm. Her brother, Uloomi Karim, also an MMA fighter, played a crucial role in preparing her for the international stage.
Anita’s outstanding performance, resulting in six wins, led to her promotion from a blue belt to a purple belt. This achievement is significant, considering she fought these battles at the blue belt level.
Her success not only brings accolades to Pakistan but also paves the way for other women in the country to pursue diverse sports on the global stage. At 27 years old, Anita Karim’s journey reflects resilience and excellence, contributing to the empowerment of women in Pakistani sports.
