It was a thrilling sixes show at Hong Kong International as Pakistan chased a target of 120 runs and defeated India in the match. The batting of Pakistan was electrifying, particularly with power hitters Asif Ali and Muhammad Akhlaq as they completed the match in style within six balls remaining. There was more to what met the eye as that was Asif Ali whose aggressive 14-ball 55 with seven sixes and three fours stunned everybody but had to retire early due to tournament regulations, for Akhlaq whose 40 came from as few as 12 deliveries and Faheem Ashraf, whose quick fire 22 got Karachi into the game.
Earlier, India had set up a competitive total of 119/2 with 53 runs from Bharat Chipli and Robin Uthappa adding 31. Pakistan’s victory over India sealed their spot in the quarterfinals as Group C leaders. Before this, Pakistan also won against the UAE after Asif Ali’s all-round performance helped his side defend 128 runs to win.
Pakistan is clearly the best batting side and have been consistent in their run rates throughout the group stages.
