Pakistan and Russia have agreed to work together on setting up a new steel mill in Karachi. The decision was made during a meeting between Russian official Denis Nazaroof and PM’s Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar Khan.
A Boost for Local Industry
The proposed mill will be built on 700 acres of land near Port Qasim — previously part of the Pakistan Steel Mills. The location is ideal for importing raw materials and cutting transport costs.
Reviving Steel Production
This project aims to upgrade Pakistan’s aging steel sector by introducing modern technology and creating new job opportunities. It’s also expected to help reduce dependence on imported steel.
Strengthening Economic Ties
Officials have agreed to form a joint working group to move the project forward — a step that signals growing economic cooperation between Pakistan and Russia.
