The National Highways and Motorway Police has announced revised speed limits on motorways and highways as part of the federal government’s broader strategy to conserve fuel and manage energy consumption during the ongoing fuel situation.
The decision follows directives issued by the government to reduce fuel usage across the country and promote more efficient transportation practices. Authorities say the new speed limits will help lower fuel consumption, improve road safety, and support national energy conservation efforts.
New Speed Limits for Vehicles
Under the updated regulations, motorcars and light transport vehicles (LTV) will now be allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour on motorways. On national highways, the speed limit for these vehicles has been set at 80 kilometers per hour.
For public service vehicles (PSV) and heavy transport vehicles (HTV), the new maximum speed limit on motorways has been reduced to 90 kilometers per hour, while on highways it has been fixed at 65 kilometers per hour.
Officials explained that these adjustments are designed to encourage drivers to maintain more fuel-efficient speeds while traveling long distances.
