The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) initiated the Indus Shield 2023 exercise at one of its operational bases in the country on Sunday, bringing together aviation experts from 14 Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.
Periodically, the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force organize and take part in international exercises to strengthen defense ties with other nations. These events offer a platform for the country’s military to showcase its capabilities and learn from the experiences and techniques of other countries.
Air Vice Marshal Tariq Mehmood Ghazi, serving as the chief guest at the inauguration, emphasized the exercise’s significance in achieving common objectives amidst the evolving dynamics of air warfare.
According to the state-owned Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) news agency, the exercise not only allows participating air forces to demonstrate their exceptional skills and operational capabilities but also fosters mutual understanding among the contingents to enhance interoperability. Additionally, it provides valuable learning experiences in aerial warfare tactics for both air and ground crews through the simulation of real-time war scenarios and diverse combat missions.
Apart from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, other participating nations in the event include Turkey, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Morocco, Uzbekistan, China, and Hungary.
