NUST’s Formula Student Team (NFST), renowned for its triumphs in the UK’s Formula Student Competition, is embarking on a groundbreaking project with electric car giant Tesla.
Traditionally focused on combustion engine cars, NFST is now venturing into hybrid engine technology, utilizing the Honda CBR 600 F4i motorcycle engine in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. The vehicle is set to feature a 60-volt Lithium-ion battery pack, with Tesla contributing the crucial battery management system.
This collaboration with Tesla ensures that NFST’s vehicle benefits from a sophisticated battery management system, controlling voltage and temperature for optimal performance. With Tesla’s expertise, the intricate details of managing power draw from the battery pack are expected to progress seamlessly.
The NFST team aims to complete the construction of the hybrid vehicle by March to April 2024, anticipating participation in the competition slated for July the same year. Reflecting on Tesla’s sponsorship, the team expresses pride in bringing the electric car giant onboard, marking a pivotal moment for innovation at NUST.
As Pakistan’s longest-running and most esteemed university team, NFST’s consistent victories in Formula Student events continue to enhance the nation’s reputation. Collaborating with Tesla positions NFST for even greater success on the global stage.
In their recent achievement at the Formula Student UK 2023 Concept Class, NFST clinched the 1st position in the Lap Time Simulation event, evaluating the car’s handling capabilities and speed on a simulated race track. Additionally, the team secured the 6th position in the design and cost categories, emphasizing the engineering prowess and cost-effectiveness of their vehicle. The collaboration with Tesla adds a new dimension to NFST’s journey, promising an innovative and competitive edge in the world of motorsports.
