Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Prof Ahsan Iqbal, announced that the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) is ready for opening. He expressed hope that this airport will become a significant hub of air transportation and a gateway for connecting different regions in the future.
The New Gwadar International Airport, a gift from the Chinese government to the people of Pakistan, especially those in Gwadar, stands as a testament to Pakistan-China friendship. Prof Iqbal described the airport as a milestone and a flagship project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He emphasized that with the training Pakistani staff will receive in China, the airport will grow into an essential hub of air transportation.
Recognizing the importance of skilled manpower for NGIA’s operations, 20 Pakistani officials have begun their multi-disciplinary training courses in China. The China Airport Construction Group will transfer technical and practical knowledge to Pakistani staff, enabling them to run the airport independently. This training program is the first of its kind, aiming to enhance the technical, administrative, and managerial skills of NGIA staff.
The NGIA comprises 32 components, including a state-of-the-art runway, aprons, a terminal, and infrastructure for civil, technical, electrical, and communication needs.
