In a significant development, funds have been allocated by the Sindh Accountant General (AG) Office to facilitate the clearance of Chinese-imported buses, with the aim of expanding the People’s Bus Service fleet in Karachi.
Originally procured by the former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government, these buses had been stranded at the Karachi Port, causing a delay in augmenting the city’s bus fleet. The intervention of Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar played a crucial role in expediting the release of funds, following his warning to the Accountant General.
The infusion of additional buses is anticipated to alleviate transportation challenges in Karachi. Chief Minister Baqar emphasized the significance of initiatives such as the Circular Railway and the prompt completion of all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines to address public transport issues in the city.
Furthermore, he expressed his intention to collaborate with the federal government in swiftly obtaining approval for the BRT Red Line Corridor from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). This concerted effort is aimed at enhancing and streamlining the public transportation system in Karachi.
