The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) achieved a historic milestone by reaching a new all-time high, surpassing the previous record of 62,956 and peaking at 64,038 points before settling at 63,917. The benchmark KSE-100 index demonstrated a 1.7 percent increase, equivalent to 1,058 points, establishing a new high of 64,014 at 2:55 PM.
Subsequently, at 3:10 PM, it recorded 64,038, reflecting a 1.72 percent surge or 1,082 points, and eventually settled at 63,917, representing a 1.53 percent increase or 961 points.
The KMI 30 index also experienced growth, gaining 1,849 points and settling at 108,925, while the KSE All Share index rose by 526 points to conclude at 42,533.
Arif Habib Limited reported that the KSE-100 is currently trading at a P/E (Price to Earnings) ratio of 4.4x, which remains at a 26 percent discount compared to the 5-year average of 5.9x.
Noteworthy is the remarkable performance of the benchmark index, which has surged by more than 54 percent or 22,556 points since the IMF standby agreement in end-June 2023. Market activity has intensified, evident in the Average Daily Trading Volume (ADTV) reaching $45 million, marking a 77 percent increase compared to the previous year. Foreign activity in the market has also risen, with a net buy of $50 million since the commencement of the financial year 2023-24.
The overall market momentum remained bullish, with a substantial trading volume of 984 million shares valued at Rs. 35.1 billion. The most significant participation was observed in K-Electric Limited (PSX: KEL) with over 143 million shares traded, followed by Worldcall Telecom Limited (PSX: WTL) and Oil and Hascol Petroleum Limited (PSX: HASCOL), registering 56.8 million shares and 54.5 million shares traded, respectively.
