In a significant move toward a more sustainable future, Islamabad is poised for a revolution in public transportation with the introduction of a fleet of electric buses by a Chinese company.
The unveiling ceremony, attended by Pakistani authorities, underscored collaborative efforts to modernize public transport. Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials, in partnership with a third party, meticulously inspected and approved these cutting-edge electric buses.
The CDA announced the imminent deployment of 30 state-of-the-art electric buses, heralding a positive shift in environmentally friendly commuting. This follows last year’s contract between the CDA and a foreign company for a total of 160 electric buses. These eco-friendly buses are set to operate along 13 public routes in the federal capital, seamlessly integrating with existing Rawalpindi Islamabad Metro Bus routes, creating a comprehensive and interconnected public transportation network.
In the initial phase, residents of Islamabad can expect electric buses on two key routes, namely from IJP Road to PIMS and from Taramri Chowk to PIMS, offering a cleaner and quieter commuting alternative. To facilitate the seamless operation of these electric vehicles, the CDA is investing in infrastructure development, including the construction of state-of-the-art electric charging stations. This commitment underscores Islamabad’s dedication to sustainability and technological innovation in its quest for a cleaner and greener public transportation system.
