The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) emphasized the need for direct flights between Pakistan and Indonesia to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations. During the 79th Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony of Indonesia at its embassy, Zafar Bakhtawari, Secretary General of United Business Group and former President of ICCI, highlighted that direct air connectivity between the two countries is essential to enhance existing relations and unlock tourism potential.
Bakhtawari also conveyed greetings to the Charge’d’Affaires on behalf of the business community and reaffirmed a commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and social prosperity for both nations. He noted that Pakistan and Indonesia share strong cordial relations, rooted in religious, historic, and cultural ties, which have grown stronger over time. He also expressed Pakistan’s gratitude for Indonesia’s support during the 1965 and 1971 wars.
He further pointed out that Indonesia is the largest economy in ASEAN and the 13th largest in the world, with predictions to become the 4th largest by 2045. The ceremony was attended by officials from the Indonesian Embassy, their families, members of the Indonesian diaspora in Pakistan, prominent religious leaders, business community representatives, think tank experts, and journalists.
