The Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) has announced key details of the upcoming Murree Glass Train, an eco-friendly electric monorail project aimed at transforming travel between Islamabad and the popular hill station.
According to PMA, the glass-walled train will operate from Lake View Park in Islamabad to a terminal near the Murree bus stand. The full journey is expected to take around 40 minutes, offering a faster, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly alternative to the often congested Murree Road.
The monorail system will feature four stations along the route:
- Lake View Park (Islamabad)
- Chattar Park
- Ghora Gali
- Final station near Murree bus stand
To cater to different passenger segments, PMA has introduced two fare categories for the Murree Glass Train:
- Standard: Rs. 500
- Premium: Rs. 1,000
The train will run on an electric monorail system, significantly reducing vehicle emissions and helping to ease road traffic between Islamabad and Murree. By diverting a portion of visitors from road to rail, the project aims to cut down on congestion, especially during peak tourist seasons and holidays.
With glass-walled coaches and an elevated track, the Murree Glass Train is designed to double as a tourism experience, offering passengers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and hills throughout the journey. Officials say the project is part of a broader push to promote sustainable tourism and modern mass transit solutions in the region.
