The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared that starting next Monday, the SMS service 8300 will be offered free of charge. The announcement was made by ECP’s Spokesperson, Syed Nadeem Hyder, alongside Additional Director General Nighat Sadique and the Project Director of the Project Management Unit.
ECP officials highlighted that voters can obtain details about their constituencies and polling stations by sending their computerized identity card numbers to 8300. They urged citizens to bring their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to the polling station for the voting process. Additionally, individuals with expired CNICs and those with tokens issued for new CNICs can also cast their votes.
According to Additional Director General Nighat Sadique, a substantial number of international observers have been invited to monitor the upcoming elections. Spokesperson Syed Nadeem Hyder emphasized that, as per the Election Act, there is a specified time limit for the completion of election results.
Presiding officers must submit the results to the Election Commission by 2 am, and any delays will be investigated, with finalized results required by 10 am the following day. The move to make the SMS service free aims to facilitate voter access to crucial information and enhance the transparency of the electoral process.
