Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting on Monday to launch a tree plantation campaign aimed at increasing the city’s green cover.
The campaign, set to commence in the next two weeks, aims to plant 140,000 trees in collaboration with the forest department, municipal corporations, and private organizations. Deputy Commissioners (DCs) will arrange the planting of 10,000 trees in their respective districts with the support of private, municipal, and industrial organizations, according to a press release.
Commissioner Naqvi highlighted the importance of collective efforts for the campaign’s success. The initiative seeks to improve Karachi’s environment and align with government initiatives addressing environmental issues.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various organizations, including the forest department, Karachi Municipal Corporation, cantonment boards, DHA, LDA, KDA, Port Qasim Authority, Town Administrations, ABAD, SITE Limited, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
The Commissioner’s office, in coordination with DCs and other stakeholders, has started identifying suitable locations for tree plantation, focusing on environmentally friendly species and avoiding harmful plants. The campaign aims to enhance Karachi’s environmental landscape and beautify the city’s roads, parks, green belts, and other public spaces.
