Pakistan’s Ministry of IT, in partnership with HEC and Meta, has launched a national AI faculty upskilling initiative targeting over 1,500 educators. The program will train non-tech and technical university faculty in AI literacy, GenAI tools, and certifications preparing Pakistan’s higher education for the digital future.
In a bold and future-forward initiative, the Government of Pakistan has launched a nationwide AI upskilling program aimed at transforming the country’s higher education landscape. Spearheaded by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and global tech giant Meta, this initiative is set to train over 1,500 university faculty members across Pakistan marking a major milestone in the country’s digital journey.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, alongside key stakeholders including HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman NCEAC, and Meta’s Director for South and Central Asia Public Policy, Sarim Aziz. Also in attendance were officials from PSEB and partner organization Atom Camp.
Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized that this initiative is not just about tech—it’s about economic resilience, educational innovation, and future-readiness. She stated
“Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s a present-day necessity. Whether in health, education, agriculture, or governance, AI is shaping how societies function. Equipping our educators means empowering the next generation.”
By starting with faculty development, the program ensures that AI knowledge trickles down to millions of students, seeding an AI-literate workforce capable of contributing to the global digital economy.
