Smart Traffic Management on the Horizon
Islamabad is on track to become Pakistan’s first fully digital city, with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) spearheading initiatives to integrate modern technology into urban infrastructure. One of the key focus areas is traffic management, where advanced systems will be introduced to ease congestion and improve road safety.
The CDA plans to implement:
- Drone Surveillance: Real-time monitoring for better traffic oversight.
- AI-Powered Traffic Analysis: Utilizing Google data to identify and resolve congestion issues.
- Automated Speed Monitoring: Ensuring smoother traffic flow and reducing violations.
Initially, 11 major congestion points will be addressed, with long-term strategies in place for further improvements.
Islamabad Moves Toward a Cashless Economy
In a bid to modernize financial transactions, the city will introduce a cashless payment system. Businesses, restaurants, and service providers will soon support QR code-based payments, making transactions more efficient and transparent.
Additionally, city-wide high-speed internet is being rolled out to support digital accessibility for residents and businesses alike.
CDA’s Vision for a Digitally Transformed Capital
During a high-level meeting, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa highlighted the importance of leveraging technology to enhance urban living. These initiatives aim to not only streamline governance but also improve public services and the overall quality of life.
As Islamabad sets the benchmark for digital transformation, it paves the way for other cities in Pakistan to follow suit, creating a smarter, more connected future.
