Pakistan has officially announced November 15, 2024 as a public holiday for the birth anniversary of the revered founder of Sikhism, Baba Guru Nanak. This is just one of the annual efforts to pay tribute to the legacy of Guru Nanak in his teachings about equality and selfless service, spirituality, and more. It facilitates the arrival of thousands of Sikh pilgrims from all over the world and, above all from India, paying homage to the Gurdwara Janamasthan in Nankana Sahib-the birth place of the great Guru Nanak of Pakistan’s Punjab.
The government of Pakistan has especially made arrangements for the pilgrims on the occasion, which included enhanced security arrangements, streamlined processes of visa on arrival, and accommodation provisions. This holiday is part of Pakistan’s broader commitment to the development of religious tourism and fostering peace and interfaith harmony. Pakistan’s Kartarpur Corridor, allowing visa-free access for Indian pilgrims to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, further strengthens Pakistan’s role in preserving Sikh heritage and supporting religious minorities.
