Pakistan’s team showcased exceptional mathematical prowess at the 65th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) held in Bath, UK, on July 11. Raazi Hassan Mansoor from Karachi won a silver medal, while Muhammad Ahmad Bhatti, also from Karachi, earned a bronze medal. Muhammad Mahad Arif from Lahore received an Honorable Mention for his impressive performance.
The team’s participation was supported by the STEM Careers Program, a joint initiative of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Science (PIEAS). The students were rigorously trained at Comsats University, Lahore Campus, under the mentorship of Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad and Dr. Hani Shakir.
PIEAS, operating under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), organizes the National Science Talent Contest (NSTC) annually in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. The NSTC, held in 19 cities across Pakistan, identifies top students who are then trained for international competitions through the STEM Careers Program. The top 50 students from the screening test attend residential training camps, and after several camps, 4-6 students per subject are selected to represent Pakistan at International Science Olympiads.
