The Punjab government has initiated the Chief Minister Climate Leadership Development Internship Programme “Mera Punjab Smog Free,” offering young graduates a scholarship of Rs25,000 to undertake measures aimed at improving the province through community service.
In her statement, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the collective effort needed to permanently eliminate smog. The initiative, part of the Smog-Free Punjab Initiative, aims to engage recent graduates in impactful community service. Eligible applicants are graduates who completed their degrees within the last two years.
Participants in the programme will receive a monthly stipend of Rs25,000, providing them a platform for community service and environmental protection. Registration for the internship programme is open until July 20, 2024, and candidates aged between 18 and 25 years are eligible to apply.
Upon completion of the internship, participants will receive a ‘Community Service Certificate.’ The CM urged the public to support government efforts by planting trees, reducing vehicle and factory emissions, minimizing plastic use, and refraining from burning crop stubble and residue.
Regarding the flour mills strike, the CM welcomed its cancellation and expressed hope that the Pakistan Flour Mills Association would cooperate with the withholding tax imposition in Punjab. She appreciated the association’s leadership for their decision and assured them of addressing their concerns and issues proactively.
