As the cherished occasion of Eidul Fitr draws near, Pakistanis are gearing up for what could potentially be an extended holiday period, with six days earmarked for festivities and celebrations.
Scheduled to coincide around April 10, preparations for the festival are already underway across the country, with individuals and communities eagerly anticipating the joyous occasion.
In a bid to address concerns related to moon sightings and ensure uniformity in Eid celebrations, the Ministry of Information Technology introduced the lunar calendar in 2019. Endorsed by the Meteorological Department, this calendar has since played a pivotal role in determining the dates of various Islamic events, including Eidul Fitr.
Traditionally, Eid holidays commence a day earlier than the anticipated date, allowing individuals ample time for preparations and participation in the celebratory rituals. With the government mulling over a four-day holiday starting from April 9 (Tuesday) to April 12 (Friday), coupled with the usual weekend holidays observed on Saturday and Sunday by both government and select private offices, the total holiday period is poised to span six days.
However, the final decision regarding the holiday schedule remains subject to consultations with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and other relevant authorities. The primary objective is to ensure alignment with the lunar calendar and facilitate nationwide celebrations in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Eidul Fitr holds profound cultural and religious significance for Muslims worldwide, symbolizing the culmination of the holy month of Ramazan marked by fasting, prayer, and introspection. In Pakistan, the festival is observed with great fervor, as families gather to exchange greetings, share festive meals, and extend acts of charity to the less fortunate.
As the nation prepares to embark on this joyous occasion, the spirit of unity, compassion, and generosity that characterizes Eidul Fitr serves as a beacon of hope and solidarity, bringing communities together in shared celebration and reverence.
