Punjab’s flagship Kissan Card initiative has reached a major milestone, with more than 832,000 farmers now benefiting from improved access to agricultural financing and essential farming inputs across the province.
The program was launched to support farmers by providing easier access to credit while reducing reliance on traditional middlemen. Through the Kissan Card, growers can obtain financial assistance for purchasing seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural necessities required throughout the crop cycle.
According to official figures, farmers utilized billions of rupees in financing and purchased agricultural inputs worth over Rs. 100 billion during the wheat season. In addition, authorities have allocated another Rs. 90 billion in support for Kharif crops, ensuring that farmers have the resources needed for continued agricultural production.
One of the most encouraging aspects of the initiative has been its reported 86 percent recovery rate, demonstrating strong repayment discipline among beneficiaries. The recovery figures indicate growing confidence in the program and reflect the commitment of farmers to responsibly utilize financial support.
Agriculture remains a vital pillar of Pakistan’s economy, contributing significantly to employment, food security, and rural livelihoods. Programs such as the Kissan Card are viewed as important steps toward modernizing the agricultural sector and improving the financial stability of farming communities.
Provincial officials say the initiative is helping farmers increase productivity, improve access to modern agricultural inputs, and strengthen economic independence. As the program continues to expand, it is expected to play a growing role in supporting rural development and long-term agricultural growth across Punjab.
