The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government has unveiled a locally developed electric rickshaw as part of its ongoing KP Science Agenda, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to authorities, the electric rickshaw has been designed to reduce fuel dependency while minimizing repair and maintenance costs for drivers. Officials stated that, compared to conventional fuel-powered rickshaws, drivers operating electric rickshaws could earn up to twice as much income due to lower operational expenses.
They further highlighted that the electric rickshaw produces zero air pollution, aligning with the provincial government’s broader efforts to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
The details were shared during a briefing at a High-Technology and Product Development Exhibition held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar. The exhibition showcased several technology-driven initiatives launched under the provincial government’s innovation framework.
Organizers briefed attendees on the manufacturing process, technical specifications, and key features of the showcased projects. In addition to the electric rickshaw, the exhibition featured multiple locally developed innovations, including artificial skin for burn treatment, PCR diagnostic kits for Hepatitis B and C, HIV, and other diseases, the use of liquid oxygen in mining, electronic surgical instruments, and an electronic study card system designed for students.
Officials emphasized that such initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to local innovation, self-reliance, and the development of cost-effective technological solutions to address public needs.
