Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday inaugurated the T-Chowk Flyover, also known as the Iqbal Chowk Flyover, along with the Islamabad Expressway Signal-Free Corridor project, marking a major step toward improving traffic flow between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said that the team led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had successfully completed multiple infrastructure projects to facilitate commuters and transporters using the capital’s road network.
He praised the interior minister, the chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and their respective teams for completing the T-Chowk Flyover in record time. The project was completed in just 77 days at a cost of Rs. 1.4 billion.
The prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and quality in development initiatives, stating that public service remains a top priority. He also appreciated officials for taking decisive action against illegal encroachments and unauthorized constructions that had remained unresolved for decades.
According to the prime minister, such encroachments had long posed challenges to urban planning and delayed infrastructure development in the city. He noted that addressing these issues was essential for sustainable urban growth and improved traffic management.
The newly inaugurated flyover and signal-free corridor are expected to significantly reduce congestion and travel time for thousands of daily commuters traveling between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
