In a thrilling clash at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, Karachi Whites secured a notable victory in the 2023-24 National T20 Cup, triumphing over the Abbottabad region by a nine-run margin.
The bowlers played a pivotal role in defending the target, with Shahnawaz Dahani shining by taking three wickets for a mere 16 runs in his four-over spell. Despite the commendable late efforts of Abbottabad’s Atizaz Habib Khan (43 runs off 26 balls) and Fayyaz Khan (23 off 9 balls), their pursuit of Karachi’s target of 156 fell short, concluding at 146/9.
Dahani’s exceptional bowling was complemented by noteworthy contributions from Anwar Ali, Danish Aziz, and Aftab Ibrahim, each securing two wickets. In the earlier innings, Karachi set a target of 155/9 after choosing to bat first.
Opening batsman Khurram Manzoor set the tone with a dynamic 53 runs off 36 deliveries, backed by Omair Yousuf’s steady 36 from 30 balls. Additional support from Azam Khan (14 off 8) and Danish Aziz (22 off 12) bolstered Karachi’s overall score.
Abbottabad’s bowling, led by Shahab Khan and Adil Naz, applied consistent pressure. Shahab impressed with four dismissals, while Adil claimed two crucial scalps. Fayyaz Khan’s two wickets also played a role in Abbottabad’s attempt to control the game.
Despite early setbacks with Sajjad Ali (1), Fakhar Zaman (19), and Kamran Ghulam (12) departing cheaply, Abbottabad’s middle order fought valiantly. However, the relentless pressure from Karachi’s bowlers, particularly Shahnawaz Dahani, proved insurmountable.
The victory marked a historic moment for Karachi Whites, formerly known as Karachi Dolphins, as they secured their maiden National T20 Cup title after six previous runner-up finishes. The triumph underscored the team’s resilience and determination in clinching the coveted championship in the pulsating showdown against Abbottabad.
