On Sunday, Shoaib Malik, a renowned Pakistani batsman, etched his name in cricket history as the first Pakistani player to amass 1,000 fours in T20 cricket. This milestone was achieved during a National T20 Cup clash between Sialkot and Rawalpindi regions in Karachi.
With an extensive international career comprising 446 matches for Pakistan, Malik reached this feat in 482 innings, securing his position as the eighth player globally to achieve such a distinction.
In the same match, Malik not only marked 1,000 fours but also notched up 400 sixes in T20s, solidifying his unique status as the sole Pakistani cricketer to achieve this double milestone. Leading the Sialkot team in the National T20 Cup, Malik exhibited his prowess by scoring 84 runs off 56 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and setting a target of 164 runs. Despite his commendable efforts, Rawalpindi successfully chased down the target in 18.4 overs.
Looking ahead, Shoaib Malik expressed his ambition to surpass Chris Gayle’s record for the most T20 runs, requiring 1,719 more runs to achieve this significant milestone. With a remarkable tally of 12,843 runs in 482 innings over 24 years since his international debut in 1999, Malik continues to be a stalwart in Pakistani cricket, showcasing his versatile skills in ODIs, Tests, and T20Is.
