Pakistan’s men’s baseball team received a significant boost as two players of Pakistani origin, Syed Muhammad Shah and Wahid, were selected to participate in the Baseball United All-Star event scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Hailing from the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, both Shah and Wahid play the infielder position. At 20 years old, Shah is the son of Syed Khawar Shah, recognized as the founder of baseball in Pakistan, while Wahid is a teenager at 19.
The upcoming event at the Dubai International Stadium will mark the first time that professional baseball games are played in the Middle East and South Asia region. Shah and Wahid will have the opportunity to compete alongside players from India, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Palestine, as well as face off against legends of America’s Major League Baseball (MLB).
Pakistan’s recent victory in the West Asia Cup, where the team remained undefeated throughout the tournament, further underscores their growing prowess in baseball. The team triumphed over opponents such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Palestine in the final. Looking ahead, Pakistan is gearing up to participate in the Asian Championship next month, demonstrating its commitment to advancing in the sport on the international stage.
