Residents of Karachi will soon have access to real-time traffic updates, including information about traffic congestion and alternative routes, displayed on large screens placed along the city’s major roads.
During a visit to the office of the DIG Traffic, the Chief of Sindh Police, Riffat Mukhtar Raja, has given orders to install 10 Surface-Mounted Device (SMD) screens at key locations throughout Karachi.
These SMD screens will provide valuable information regarding traffic jams, alternative routes, and disruptions caused by construction work.
During his visit, Riffat Mukhtar Raja also emphasized the importance of raising awareness about traffic laws among young people in educational institutions.
The Inspector General (IG) was briefed on the various initiatives undertaken by the traffic police, which included the deployment of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at multiple locations in the city, including 26 spots along Shahrah-e-Faisal.
Additionally, he pointed out the need for a larger workforce within the traffic police to more effectively address traffic-related issues. The installation of SMD screens is expected to enhance traffic flow on Karachi’s busiest roads.
