A white paper released by China’s State Council Information Office on October 10, titled “The Belt and Road Initiative: A Key Pillar of the Global Community of Shared Future,” highlights the significant achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) over the past decade. The BRI has delivered tangible benefits to participating nations, serving as a welcomed public good and cooperation platform. The paper emphasizes the international community’s positive reception of the initiative and its substantial outcomes.
The white paper sheds light on China-Pakistan cooperation in various sectors during this period, such as policy coordination, infrastructure development, trade, financial integration, and improvements in people’s quality of life, including projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
For instance, significant progress has been made in the construction of economic corridors and international routes, with examples from Pakistan, including the completion of the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway, the Karakoram Highway Phase II, and the Lahore Orange Line Metro. Various coal-fired power plants and infrastructure projects are operational, and Gwadar Port is making strides toward becoming a logistics hub and industrial center.
The white paper underscores the BRI as a long-term, transnational, and systematic global initiative of the 21st century, with great potential to enhance global cooperation. It sets the stage for even greater creativity, inclusivity, and opportunities for both China and the world in the future.
