The Commissioner of Kohat Division, Mr. Muhammad Ali Shah, launched the “Osho” initiative on October 4, 2023, with the goal of achieving a clean and green Pakistan. The initiative was inaugurated in Kohat, and it is part of a broader effort to address public grievances related to cleanliness and hygiene.
The Commissioner emphasized that ensuring cleanliness and environmental sustainability has been a top priority since he took office. He commended the Deputy Commissioner of Orakzai, Mr. Muhammad Tayyab Abdullah, and his team for developing a simple yet effective Software Application-based solution to address public concerns regarding cleanliness. The “Osho” initiative was initially piloted in District Orakzai and is planned to be extended to all other four districts within Kohat Division.
The “Osho” initiative is designed to streamline the process of reporting public grievances related to cleanliness and sanitation. It involves the use of an Android Software Application, which allows the public to submit images of unclean or dirty spots within District Orakzai. These images are then forwarded to the relevant government departments, along with a deadline for cleaning the area. Once the spot is cleaned, photographic evidence is shared with the public, marked with the “Osho” tag and a thumbs-up icon.
The term “Osho” was chosen for the initiative as it is a commonly used Pashto word that signifies the successful completion of a task.
Initially, the App focuses on municipal services related to sewerage, garbage removal, roadside debris, and construction material. The District Administration will assign these tasks to relevant municipal departments for resolution.
The “Osho” initiative is unique in that it empowers the public to engage with the government’s municipal service delivery system by simply submitting an image. No personal information such as names, addresses, or CNICs is required. This approach is expected to enhance citizen satisfaction and improve the government’s credibility through efficient public grievance redressal.
The initiative also includes an accountability component, with the establishment of Osho Task Forces at the Divisional, District, and Sub-Divisional levels to oversee implementation and review performance. Officers or officials failing to meet expectations may face penalties as per relevant regulations.
The “Osho” Application has the potential for further development, including obtaining public feedback on government initiatives and disseminating public service messages. It represents a significant step towards a cleaner and more environmentally sustainable Pakistan.
