In a groundbreaking event, the Swat district administration facilitated the very first girls’ cricket match in the region. The Women’s Cricket League in Swat saw 27 talented players in action, demonstrating excellence not only in sports but also as catalysts for societal progress and national development, according to Dr. Qasim Ali Khan, the Deputy Commissioner of Swat.
The inaugural match featured Mingora Eleven and Kabal Eleven, with Mingora Eleven emerging victorious by a margin of 7 runs. Mingora Eleven, batting first, posted a score of 129 runs in 10 overs, with standout performances from Manahil (76 runs) and Mehwish (28 runs). Despite their aggressive play, Kabal Eleven couldn’t chase the target and suffered defeat.
Trophies and cash prizes were presented to the players by Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Babuzai Luqman Khan, Assistant Commissioner, Kabal, Junaid Khan, and Taekwondo gold medalist Ayesha Ayaz. Ayaz Naik, the match organizer, expressed gratitude to the district administration and other supporters for their assistance.
It’s worth noting that the initiative to organize a cricket match for college girls in Kabal and Saidu Sharif was initially met with opposition, but the district administration stepped in to ensure the event’s security and successful execution.
